| William F. Powers, Jr. William F. Powers, Jr. has been practicing law for over 37 years, trying his first case to a successful judgment the day following his swearing-in on January 7, 1971. He is the third generation of his family to practice the profession. He has the highest (AV) Martindale Hubble proficiency rating possible. His seminal background was in title insurance, lending and real estate development. His practice is limited to real estate and business matters, commercial landlord-tenant, construction, and related litigation, and probate/elder abuse litigation. He received his B.A. in English with a History minor at University of California Santa Barbara (Dean’s list) and his J.D. at Loyola University of Los Angeles (St. Thomas Moore Law Honor Society). Bill is a member of the San Fernando Valley, California, US District Court Central and U.S. Supreme Court Bars. He has served as a Mediator, Arbitrator, Settlement Officer, Discovery Referee and Judge Pro Tem for the Los Angeles Superior Court. He has taught an upper division/graduate course in Real Estate Law for California State University Northridge and several credited continuing legal education courses for the C.E.B. and local Bars. Two of his legal articles on the holder-in-due course doctrine were published in greater Los Angeles law journals. Bill is past Board Chairman and still on the Executive Board of the United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley and is also the Past-President of the Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Chamber. He serves on many non-profit boards, including the Child Development Institute, the Economic Alliance, Valley Vote, Chatsworth B.I.D., M.E.N.D., BUILD, and PALS Youth Center Foundation. He was a finalist for the Fernando Award from 2001-2004 and he served as charter President of the Chatsworth Kiwanis Club and President of the Northridge/Chatsworth Rotary in which he remains active. |
